Gadisar Lake

Gadisar Lake is one of the most loved lake attractions in Jaisalmer and a peaceful break from the narrow lanes, busy markets, and fort sightseeing of the old city. The lake is known for its calm water, carved yellow sandstone gateways, small shrines, chhatris, and beautiful views that feel especially warm during morning and evening light. Many travelers visit Gadisar Lake for boating, photography, birdwatching, and a slow walk around the water after exploring Jaisalmer Fort or Patwon Ki Haveli. The area has a historic character because it was once an important water source for the city, and that old-world feeling still appears in the temples, pavilions, and stone details around the banks. It is a good place for families, couples, solo travelers, and photographers because the visit does not need to be rushed. You can spend a short stop here for photos, or stay longer to watch birds, sit near the water, enjoy a boat ride when available, and see the changing colors of Jaisalmer's golden sandstone in the soft light. Sunset is popular, but early morning is often quieter and better for relaxed photos. Gadisar Lake works well in most Jaisalmer itineraries because it is close to the city and easy to combine with nearby museums, local food stops, rooftop cafes, and old city sightseeing.

A scenic historic lake known for boating, temples, and sunset views.
